After recent scandals, I have become skeptical of the native missionary movement. I have been supporting native missionaries for decades now, but these scandals have really burnt my trust. Thank you for addressing trust and accountability in Prayerline letter.

Finishing the Task

November 2016

Dear Friend in the Harvest,

Sixty years ago, a revolution began.

God gave my husband, Dr. Bob Finley, insight to understand that establishing a witness for our Lord in every nation had to come through indigenous missions.

These faithful Christ-followers, familiar with the language and culture of their own region, courageously share the love and message of Jesus Christ among people in areas hostile to Christianity.

Thank you for joining us for the journey. We press on toward finishing the task. In fact, the opportunities today surpass anything I’ve seen in my life or since the beginning of Christian Aid Mission.

Today we are witnessing incredible progress in the Great Commission effort among native gospel workers. More unreached people have heard and responded to the gospel in the last decade than in the last 200 years of missions. The vast majority of this work has been accomplished by this growing movement of indigenous missionaries working among impoverished, persecuted people who have little or no access to the Bible or the gospel. Some have never met a Christian in their entire life.

Indeed, the opportunities for cutting-edge kingdom work are historic.

For example, on an Island off the coast of southern India, a primitive tribe exists which, until recently, never heard the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Indeed, these people had no concept of “God,” and no word in their dialect defined the idea of a loving creator or savior.

Native missionaries first visited these tribal people hidden in the jungles of the Andaman Islands in 2012, after 40 years of ministering in other areas.

Even when the military forbade tourists and missionaries from crossing a protective line five kilometers from the village—the leader of an indigenous ministry risked his life to visit the people God had shown him. Didn’t they need the Lord? Didn’t the Lord desire them to know Him, to be a people after His heart?

“The peace of the Lord rested on us,” the native leader said. “I crucified my flesh and all fear and gave my emotions to Christ as we approached the island.”

The ministry team reached out with gifts of clothing and food. They spent time with them, sang songs and prayed with them on each visit. Finally, this year, the captain of the small tribe received the Lord Jesus and was baptized. He is the first fruit of this people group—after years of prayer and outreach.

Prayer fuels this season of end-time, Great Commission work. A great awakening is arising in the nations as we grow closer to finishing the task.

In India, for instance, thousands of leaders from multiple Christian denominations gathered this year for worship, prayer and strategic planning for reaching India’s 2,000-plus unreached people groups with the gospel. While these native ministry leaders and church planters represented different denominations, they shared one common goal: To see the gospel reach every unreached tribe in their country and to hasten the day of our Lord’s return.

From this meeting, hundreds of small, regional gatherings have emerged. This month, several thousand plan to gather again to pray for their nation. By faith, and with unity, they anticipate seeing a witness for the Lord in the darkest areas of India. With prayer and strategic collaboration, this can happen in the next decade.

This is frontline gospel work. And you have played a huge role in this historic movement. Thank you, on behalf of thousands of indigenous missionaries, whom you support through Christian Aid Mission.

Your faithful support has served thousands of indigenous missionaries all over the world at a fraction of the cost to send traditional foreign missionaries. You have helped accelerate the most incredible advance of the gospel in all of mission work.

We Could be the Generation That Finishes the Task.

Here’s the great news: We are closing in on the finish line of the unfinished task! Could we be the generation that finally reaches every nation, tribe, people and language with the gospel? It could actually happen in the next 10 to 15 years.

For this reason, Christian Aid has established the Finish the Task Fund. This fund will help us accelerate the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14 and hasten the return of our Lord Jesus (2 Peter 3:12).

When you give to our Finishing the Task Fund, you will:

  • Fuel the research, engagement and support of indigenous ministries who are dedicated to reaching the unreached.
  • Support indigenous ministries working discretely in high risk areas, where most unreached people groups exist. These works often must remain hidden and unpublicized.
  • Supply emergency relief to ministries in areas afflicted by natural or human disasters, specifically targeting those who are sharing God’s love in word and deed in areas previously closed or hostile to the gospel.
  • Report what God is doing to finish the task through indigenous missions.

For 60 years, Christian Aid has been the U.S. headquarters for hundreds of indigenous mission organizations in over 100 countries. Over these years, thousands of churches have been established, hundreds of people groups have been reached, and millions have been won to faith in some of the most difficult places for the gospel.

But we believe the greatest harvest for the kingdom is yet to come. Indigenous ministries around the world are all telling us the same thing: Harvest time is now, all over the world!

Our vision is to fund an additional 50,000 native missionaries working among the last remaining unreached people groups. Our present capacity and infrastructure is overdue for expansion. Your gifts to our Finishing the Task Fund will help meet the flood of requests received from missionaries working in strategic areas of the world.

Will you join us in Finishing the Task?

Will you join us and see the completion of the Great Commission?
