About Serbia

Serbia is a landlocked Balkan state which is home to 36 distinct People Groups, 7 of whom remain unreached according to the Joshua Project. Serbia was defeated by the Turks in Kosovo in 1389 and forcibly made part of the Ottoman Empire which has led to ill feelings towards Muslims by ethnic Serbs ever since. There is freedom of religion in Serbia but evangelical churches face persecution at the hands of Orthodox Serbians. The Romani population in Serbia is very receptive to the evangelical message but they are also among the poorest in Serbia.
