Rae Burnett with believers in Western Sahara. |
SINCE 1993, Rae Burnett has served as Field Director for Christian Aid’s Africa Division. She has traveled hundreds of thousands of miles over land, sea, and air, penetrating the depths of this dark continent to find indigenous ministries which are reaching those in their nations who have never heard the gospel. Thus far, she has been to 45 of Africa’s 54 countries, most of them many times.
Rae comments, “The eyes of the world are on Africa: unimaginable poverty, starving children, war victims, drought, famine, AIDS, malaria. The list is seemingly endless; the pictures heartbreaking. We know that the gospel of Christ is the only answer, and supporting native missionaries is the way to provide true and lasting help in Jesus’ name. I am committed to finding, verifying, and making known the men to whom the Lord has entrusted His work of bringing light into the darkness.”

Rae, left, crossing a dangerous river to reach a newly planted church among Muslim converts in Eastern Kenya. |
In addition to Rae, Brittany Tedesco at the US headquarters, Emmanuel Olewa in West Africa, and John Rono in East Africa make up the Africa team. Without them, the indigenous Africa ministries helped by Christian Aid would have no voice, no means of receiving the support which so greatly multiplies their work.

Trekking through countless jungles throughout sub-Saharan Africa, Rae visits missionaries working among those who have never heard the gospel. |
As his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike (1 Samuel 30:24).
Christian Aid has sent millions of dollars to Africa to provide support for thousands of native missionaries, to care for homeless children, for digging wells, providing agricultural projects and vocational training. These have opened countless doors for the salvation message. But all this is sustained and undergirded by the Africa staff of Christian Aid. They too are missionaries who “stand by the stuff.” For the year ahead, Christian Aid has a budget of $140,000 to make possible the work of the Africa Division. As God so leads, send your offerings for Africa with the gift code 500ADM.
From the deserts of Islamic countries north of the Sahara, to jungle villages in Congo, Rae has gone boldly to find God’s hidden servants and to carry precious help for their work. Also to Sudan in the East with funds for merciful relief of victims of genocide in regions of Darfur as well as to hundreds of other areas of great need. God has truly protected her as she has traveled hundreds of thousands of miles throughout the African continent.
