A Miracle of Healing needed in the Middle East

The battles raging in Gaza, Israel and the West Bank over the past several decades have always held worldwide political implications. Throughout history, no one has ever lived in the holy land without strife. It is difficult to hope for reconciliation – at least from a purely human perspective.

There are about 3,000 Christians living in Gaza. They are in a vulnerable position, being suspect by both the Palestinians and the Israelis. Any movements, actions, or statements are under constant scrutiny. Travel is extremely difficult, if not prohibited. A ministry leader in Bethlehem writes: "Last December several families from the Christian community in Gaza were allowed to come visit Bethlehem for Christmas. While here, war broke out in Gaza and now they cannot go back."

Another leader told of a similar story. "A father, mother, and two small children left Gaza for Bethlehem during the Christmas holidays. They left their two eldest sons at home because they were not eligible for permits. When the troubles were just beginning, the father was able to return to Gaza in an attempt to bring out his two sons, but he was unable to return with them. The family is still separated."

In Gaza, non-combatant men, women, and children are being killed and even more injured. Others are stuck in their homes or some kind of shelter, afraid to go into the street. They have no electricity, no gas, no running water, and no food. Christians are requesting emergency supplies and medicine – not just for themselves, but for anyone around them who is suffering or in need. Christian Aid has contacts with indigenous ministries which are familiar with all the intricacies of the Gaza situation and in particular, how they affect Christians. They are seeking the best ways of getting help to them.

Meanwhile, they ask for your fervent prayers. While hurting themselves from the effects of the fighting, they desire to show the love of Christ to those around them. They also need the miracle of healing – for physical injuries and emotional trauma experienced by everyone. Constant intervention is needed to release captives from the bondage of hatred so pervasive in this area of the world. This is not a battle against men, but against a spiritual [power] of wickedness. (Ephesians 6:12)
