Thousands of farms were destroyed from recent flooding in Togo. Pictures are of corn fields of Warriors for Christ missionaries, an indigenous ministry supported by Christian Aid. |
Leader Christipher Djatta writes, “The rain of this year has destroyed many roads, farms, and houses. Until now, the vehicle you bought for us has always been very useful to reach the town, but it cannot now pass because the road from the mission school is destroyed.
“For 3 years we have been happily and successfully using solar panels for our SOM and headquarters which are in the bush; this year the weather was too heavy of clouds every day, and the rain spoiled the panels. We need $1500-$500 each to replace parts in the 3 damaged panels.”
This destruction has been devastating for the Togolese people who are already desperately poor.
Constant deluge has kept many farms submersed. There have even been suicides. One farmer who borrowed fertilizers for a successful maize crop killed himself to avoid debts. WFC is ministering to and caring for the needs of his family. Fruit trees are uprooted. Christian Aid donors provided funds for small farms for many WFC missionaries so they can support themselves and the work. They are among the victims of this situation, and need help to start over. $560 is needed to replant each destroyed farm. For more Information contact rae@christianaid.org.
