Praise Prevails in Niger

Sunday services throughout Niamey, the capital of Niger, were cancelled on Jan. 18 following violent protests the previous day against French magazine Charlie Hebdo´s depiction of Muhammad in the 98-percent Muslim country, but that didn´t stop some Christians from praising God in the gutted remains of this church building. Rioting Muslims vented their anger at the magazine and France by killing at least 10 people and burning 72 church buildings in Niger, according to Christian support organization Open Doors. Christians are living in fear. Said one native missionary on Jan. 20, “Yesterday the children did not go to school, but today we send them off since [their missionary organization] promised to have military surveillance. Please continue to pray for the insecure situation in Niger.”
