The Grace of Giving

November 2013

Dear Partners in Mission,

Christmas is around the corner and beyond the anticipation and anxiety it brings, we should be looking forward to celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We’re especially grateful for your response to our letter mailed with June Prayerline asking for help for our administrative needs. So far, your contributions have met almost 20% of what we asked for.

Traditionally, when we gather for birthdays here in America, family and guests come bearing gifts for the one being honored. It’s a way we show our love and appreciation for the person.

So at Christmas, the day marked to commemorate the birth of Christ our Lord, how can we offer gifts to honor Him?

In the Scriptures it says that when we feed the hungry, care for the sick, provide water for the thirsty, we are doing it for Him. Christ went on to explain, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:40)

An important word in the verse is “brethren.” Over 100 times in the Epistles of Paul the word is used to indicate those who were believers in Christ.

When Bob Finley was looking for a logo to express the purpose of Christian Aid, he lifted the words from 1 John 3:14 “because we love the brethren” and incorporated into the design. In this context he was thinking of native missionaries serving the Lord in poorer countries.

One reason why Christian Aid exists is to serve as a link between Christ’s family in affluent America and our fellow believers in the poorest places on earth, or those that are persecuted for His sake.

So if we honestly want to celebrate the birth of our Savior, our first and primary gifts should be unto Him as we minister to the needs of those who serve within His body, the true church (Colossians 1:24), our brethren.

Your extra one-time birthday gift for our Savior, sent through Christian Aid, can provide many of the tools and supplies needed by missionaries to carry on their work in service to the Lord. That is why we are sending you The Grace of Giving, our Christmas Gift catalog in a few weeks. Please look for it to arrive at your house in November.

In His Love,

Cynthia Finley

President

P.S. So many Christian workers thank God daily for the help you are sending for them which enables them to preach God’s Word to those who have not heard the truth. The ministries in this month’s Prayerline are all worthy of your prayers and support. Please uphold them in your daily devotions.
