Indigenous Ministry Asks for Support to Help Survivors

In June 2026, two powerful earthquakes killed more than 5,200 people, injured 16,740, and damaged 856 buildings, with 190 buildings completely collapsing. Currently, nearly 20,000 people are homeless and living in makeshift camps on sidewalks, in public squares, and in stadiums.

“Since the second day of the double earthquake, we have been supporting the rescue teams, and now we are assisting children in shelters with psychological support activities, essential supplies, and some medicines,” the leader of an indigenous ministry said. “This isn’t our usual line of work, but we cannot look the other way in the face of such pain and devastation. If we would receive support, we stand ready to help.”

The assisted ministry focuses on discipling and training indigenous Christian leaders to share the gospel with their respective ethnicities. Missionaries also provide intercultural Bible training and support Bible translation work to further the gospel among indigenous tribal communities.

Venezuela

More than twice the size of California, Venezuela is home to a mostly Roman Catholic population that is struggling under the weight of a crumbling economy and dictatorial regime with strong restrictions on freedom of expression and the press. Highly dependent on its oil exports, the country has suffered a major economic crisis since oil prices began falling in 2014. High inflation and unemployment combined with shortages of food, water, medicine, and other basic necessities have caused millions of Venezuelans to seek asylum in neighboring countries.
Soaring violent crime and human rights abuses also plague the country. According to Human Rights Watch, “The accumulation of power in the executive branch that began during the presidency of Hugo Chávez has enabled Venezuelan authorities to intimidate, censor, and punish its critics. A brutal crackdown on dissent that intensified since 2014 has led to the arbitrary prosecution of political opponents, dozens of killings, thousands of arrests, and abuses against detainees that in some cases amount to torture.”
During this unprecedented humanitarian emergency, indigenous ministries assisted by Christian Aid Mission are stepping up to meet the needs of desperate Venezuelan citizens and refugees. Ministry workers in Colombia have met Venezuelans at the border with life-saving aid. A ministry inside of Venezuela is working to bring the hope and transformation of the gospel to broken lives.
This ministry, whose mission is to disciple and train indigenous Christian leaders and missionaries in the Amazon region, requests help to provide theological training to several groups of tribal minorities, which will affect at least 13 tribal communities comprised of seven ethnic minorities. “Even when many indigenous tribal people profess to be Christians, they live as nominal Christians, plagued with customs and rituals that have very little to do with biblical truths,” the ministry leader reported. “Among the ethnic groups in Venezuela where there is some knowledge of the biblical gospel, syncretism and superstition coexist, which keeps them tied to fear and often resorting to the ‘sorcerer’ to answer their questions and meet their health needs.”
The ministry seeks to equip local Christian leaders in Venezuela with the Bible training they need to effectively share the gospel and disciple others to maturity in Christ, knowing that only the gospel can bring true health and healing to their nation. Along with this outreach to Christian adults, the ministry seeks assistance to reach children and youth with the message of salvation through its bi-monthly sports outreach, during which young people are provided a meal and hear a gospel presentation.

How to Pray for Venezuela

  • Pray that God would bring revival to the people of Venezuela, that their eyes would be opened to the truth of the gospel and that their hearts would be changed.
  • Pray for mercy and justice for Venezuelans who are suffering under the weight of so many dangers and hardships.
  • Pray for the tribal groups who have only recently accepted the gospel, that they would grow in Christian maturity through their understanding of God’s Word; pray also for those tribal groups who have yet to be reached with the gospel, that they would soon have witnesses for Christ among them.

Equip Believers for Ministry Work in Venezuela
A local ministry's theological institute welcomes new indigenous students each year into its program, and this year, 14 students from different ethnic groups are studying together to prepare for future roles in the ministry. "Our ministry's mission and vision are to prepare indigenous leaders biblically by providing them with tools to extend and preserve the use of their language, thus preserving their cultural identity," the ministry leader said. "It is important that they prepare themselves so they can properly interpret the Word of God." Donations of $60 or $120 assist with such leadership and discipleship training.

Bring People To Faith In Jesus in Venezuela
Entire families have come to know Christ through the work of one native ministry that provides meals and reading and writing lessons to vulnerable children. After a missionary shared the gospel with the children of her community, one little boy immediately told his parents. Filled with curiosity, the whole family began to attend the local church, and several months later, they accepted Jesus as Lord. “The seed that was planted in the boy’s life is now bearing fruit in his family,” the ministry leader said.
