URGENT: South Asia Hit With Devastating Floods

Sudden, intense rainstorms across Pakistan, India, and Nepal have left hundreds dead and tens of thousands homeless. The storms began unexpectedly in August, causing flash floods and landslides across South Asia, wiping out houses and roads, and sweeping people away. Ministries here urgently request assistance.

Local Missionaries Prepared to Help

In Nepal, missionaries returned home from an international trip to discover the magnitude of the disaster. “The damage is quite extensive,” the ministry leader reported. “Homes are destroyed, bridges are washed out, and farmlands submerged.”

The ministry plans to help some of the worst-hit communities by providing them with supplies to prepare for winter such as warm clothing, blankets, and materials for temporary shelters. “In the longer term, we hope to help affected families rebuild their livelihoods through vocational training and skills development, especially for those who have lost their means of income,” the ministry leader reported.

“Though heartbreaking, this situation opens a door to show the love of Jesus in action, not just in word.”

In India, both Christian and non-Christian communities were affected, and local missionaries not only plan to distribute relief materials and organize free medical camps, but they also hope to share the gospel. “Though heartbreaking, this situation opens a door to show the love of Jesus in action, not just in word,” a ministry leader said. “We are committed to standing with both the saints and the unreached in this crisis and invite you to do the same.”

More Resources Needed

In Pakistan, a ministry leader reported that 1,600 villages were submerged in floodwaters, and more than 7 million were evacuated, with 115,000 of those rescues by boat. “Water has inundated houses, buildings, livestock, and farmlands, causing massive devastation across the province,” he said. “This is the worst flooding in decades, and resources are inadequate.”

Like in India, however, missionaries in Pakistan have also used every opportunity to share the gospel as they assist those in need. “There were ample opportunities to share the Word of God with people seeking divine guidance,” a ministry leader said. “Four hundred copies of the Gospel of John were given out.”

You Can Help

Food, clean water, clothing, shelter, and medical assistance are critically needed, and missionaries report that without immediate relief, the suffering will only increase. You can help through a donation today.

“Please help us in this season of disaster and suffering,” a ministry leader in India said. “And may God use this time of crisis to ultimately bring glory to His name and build His kingdom.”

“We are deeply grateful for your partnership and intercessions.”

Pray for all those affected by this disaster, and pray for missionaries as they minister to those who have lost loved ones, their livelihoods, and their homes. “We are deeply grateful for your partnership and intercessions,” a ministry leader in Pakistan said. “Rest assured, we also uphold you in our prayers, thanking God for your unwavering support.”
