Iranian Christians in Desperate Situation

Uncertainty looms for the people of Iran, as believers there pray for a better future for their country. An indigenous ministry assisted by Christian Aid Mission oversees more than 3,600 house churches and pleads for help for the Christians under their care.

Many Iranian believers are in desperate situations since early January, when the regime responded to a widespread strike by shopkeepers with extreme violence, killing thousands of people.

You can help meet the urgent need for food and medicine, as many people—including many house church leaders—have lost their jobs, and the price of food has skyrocketed.

“The need is even greater now,” the ministry leader said. “We have families who have lost loved ones…and families struggling to feed themselves right now. If you can continue to meet various humanitarian needs, we will distribute accordingly.”

A church leader who works as a barber has lost 70% of his customers. “He is the sole provider for his family, supporting an elderly mother and a sister,” the leader said. “He explained that his family has no basic food supplies at home.”

How to Pray for Iran

  • Pray that, despite the oppressive restrictions of Shariah law, multitudes of Iranians would come to know the one true Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for boldness, courage, and wisdom for Iranian Christians as they seek to live out their faith and share the gospel with others at great risk to themselves and their families.
  • Pray for those believers who are currently suffering in prison for their commitment to Christ—that their release would happen soon and that they would remain faithful to the Lord while in chains.

Local missionaries are bringing the gospel to minority ethnic groups through online platforms and face-to-face encounters with the goal of establishing house churches in these communities. Already, in one community, there are several house churches led by believers who once followed an ethnic religion. “These developments represent important breakthroughs in extending the gospel within Iran,” the ministry leader said. In Their Time of Need: Helping Assisted Ministries in Iran
On February 28, the United States and Israel began striking targets within Iran, decimating locations deemed an imminent threat and killing Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The decision, known as Operation Epic Fury, came after months of protests by Iranians over dire economic conditions and the regime’s brutal response, which left nearly 7,000 dead. An assisted ministry had already begun helping Iranians following the protests, and now they seek more help as they await word from missionaries inside the country. “Every hour it seems like missiles and drones are being intercepted above us,” said a ministry leader who is currently in a bordering country. “We have almost no communication with our believers inside the country aside from a few intermittent conversations.”

Train Believers for Gospel Work in Iran
Leaders of newly established churches have undergone ministry training through the ongoing efforts of local missionaries to help prepare them in managing the affairs of their churches as efficiently and effectively as possible. “There has also been an effort to ensure that at the very least, each of the churches receives the essential books they need,” the ministry leader said. Supply Poor Families With Rug-Making Supplies in Iran
Widows and poor families from among a ministry’s church groups were provided with supplies to make carpets, prayer rugs, and embroidery to sell and support themselves. “This carpet-making from the home is really helping those families in many ways,” the ministry leader said. The ministry hopes to equip 40 families with rug-making supplies and requests donations of $233, the amount necessary to provide such supplies to just one family. Pray believers would be encouraged through this assistance.
