Iranian Christians in Desperate Situation

Uncertainty looms for the people of Iran in the wake of the airstrikes and death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Believers pray for an end to violence and hope for a better future for the Iranian people.

Christian Aid Mission assists an indigenous ministry in Iran that oversees more than 3,600 house churches. They plead for help for the Christians under their care, many of whom are in desperate situations following the government crackdown in early January, when the regime responded to a widespread strike by shopkeepers with extreme violence.

You can help meet the urgent need for food and medicine, as many people—including many house church leaders—have lost their jobs, and the price of food has skyrocketed.

“The need is even greater now,” the ministry leader said. “We have families who have lost loved ones during the last month. We have believers who have been arrested with Bibles…we currently have families struggling to feed themselves right now. If you can continue to meet various humanitarian needs, we will distribute accordingly.”

Conservative estimates indicate that over 7,000 people were killed in the crackdown, but some reports raise this number to between 30,000 and 40,000 people.

“Several believers were arrested, some were injured, and tragically, a number of them were killed by state forces,” the ministry leader reported.

A church leader who works as a barber has lost 70% of his customers. “He is the sole provider for his family, supporting an elderly mother and a sister,” the leader said. “He explained that his family has no basic food supplies at home.”

How to Pray for Iran

Pray that, despite the oppressive restrictions of Shariah law, multitudes of Iranians would come to know the one true Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Pray for boldness, courage, and wisdom for Iranian Christians as they seek to live out their faith and share the gospel with others at great risk to themselves and their families.
Pray for those believers who are currently suffering in prison for their commitment to Christ—that their release would happen soon and that they would remain faithful to the Lord while in chains.

Enable Gospel Outreach in Iran

Native Christian workers taking Bibles to a remote village where evangelizing comes with great risks met a man with a large tattoo on his neck. He was shocked when they offered him a Bible, as it was forbidden in the strict Islamic area, but he had been wanting one. The workers studied Scripture with him and led him to trust in Christ, and now he is sharing his faith and baptizing others. Workers need donations of $25 or $50 to carry out such gospel outreach and guide new Christians. Pray that God will honor the faith of more workers taking risks to share the gospel.

Help Share Saving Grace in Iran

An elderly woman was in evident pain from an illness she had suffered for six years when native Christian workers visited her. After they had prayed for her for five minutes, she began to feel relief and got better as they continued praying. The workers shared the gospel with her and her adult son, and they accepted Christ’s grace. Later a worker followed up with the son by phone. “He said that his mom had passed away the night before, but he was happy because his mom came to faith before she died," the ministry leader said. Workers need donations of $60 or $120 for such gospel work. Pray the Lord would continue revealing Himself to many people.

Help Workers Proclaim Good News in Iran

When native Christian workers collected a church offering to bring to a needy family, upon arrival they were surprised to hear the daughter tell them she knew they were coming from Jesus. She told them that two nights prior she had dreamt of being in a beautiful garden where Jesus told her He would send her help. “This made it very easy to share the Good News,” the ministry leader said. “A church now meets in that house.” Workers sharing the gospel through various means need donations for such outreach and discipleship. Pray the Lord would continue to form fellowships throughout the country.

Help Workers Plant Churches in Iran

A man addicted to drugs for 20 years became so desperate that he tried to kill himself. Native Christian workers visited and prayed with him, and after three days he put his faith in Christ, stopped using drugs and began sharing his faith with addicts. Workers at the ministry are committed to sharing the gospel with the entire country, proclaiming Christ to thousands of people and planting 160 small home fellowships over a six-month period. Donations are sought to share the gospel and follow up with new believers in spite of severe opposition. Pray that secret house churches would continue spreading the Word of God and be kept safe.

Equip Church Leaders For Underground Evangelism in Iran

A man who once followed an ancient Iranian religion heard the gospel from a Christian worker and became one of the most influential leaders of the underground network of Christians in Iran. Through the faithfulness of leaders like him, more than 20,000 Bibles have been secretly distributed across eight states in the last six months, and discipleship is ongoing in house churches, which are equipped with leaders trained to facilitate repentance, baptism, the Lord’s Supper, prayer, and studying Scripture. Donations are requested for such evangelism and discipleship needs in the country. Pray for the workers and the continued boldness of the Iranian church.

Encourage Family Unity in Iran

A young woman went with her sister to a church member’s house one evening determined to discover why her sister’s behavior had changed. While there, the owner of the house presented her with a Bible, and the woman’s eyes immediately filled with tears. “For years I have been looking for a sign of Christ in my real life,” she said. After a two-hour gospel conversation, the woman was baptized in the bathtub. “From now until the end of my life I put my whole life in the way of Christ,” she said afterward.
