Iranian Christians in Desperate Situation

Uncertainty looms for the people of Iran in the wake of the airstrikes and death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Believers pray for an end to violence and hope for a better future for the Iranian people.

Christian Aid Mission assists an indigenous ministry in Iran that oversees more than 3,600 house churches. They plead for help for the Christians under their care, many of whom are in desperate situations following the government crackdown in early January, when the regime responded to a widespread strike by shopkeepers with extreme violence.

You can help meet the urgent need for food and medicine, as many people—including many house church leaders—have lost their jobs, and the price of food has skyrocketed.

“The need is even greater now,” the ministry leader said. “We have families who have lost loved ones during the last month. We have believers who have been arrested with Bibles…we currently have families struggling to feed themselves right now. If you can continue to meet various humanitarian needs, we will distribute accordingly.”

Conservative estimates indicate that over 7,000 people were killed in the crackdown, but some reports raise this number to between 30,000 and 40,000 people.

“Several believers were arrested, some were injured, and tragically, a number of them were killed by state forces,” the ministry leader reported.

A church leader who works as a barber has lost 70% of his customers. “He is the sole provider for his family, supporting an elderly mother and a sister,” the leader said. “He explained that his family has no basic food supplies at home.”

How to Pray for Iran

Pray that, despite the oppressive restrictions of Shariah law, multitudes of Iranians would come to know the one true Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Pray for boldness, courage, and wisdom for Iranian Christians as they seek to live out their faith and share the gospel with others at great risk to themselves and their families.
Pray for those believers who are currently suffering in prison for their commitment to Christ—that their release would happen soon and that they would remain faithful to the Lord while in chains.

Support Microenterprise Projects in Iran

An illiterate widow with no way to support her family was presented with an opportunity to make rugs through a microenterprise project developed through a native ministry. The woman is a believer, and when church members told her about the project, she cried with joy because she had been a professional rug maker in the past. “Jesus saved this family and brought hope and happiness to a widow with loads of problems trying to support and provide for her family,” the ministry leader said. “She is a stronger believer than ever before.” Your donations are needed for microenterprise projects such as this. Be The Hands And Feet Of Jesus in Iran

In the last six months, 20,000 Bibles were distributed across the country, with many smuggled or prayerfully left on park benches or in taxis by native missionaries who trust that those who find them will read and be transformed. Bible study is an important part of church fellowship, and Christian workers from one native ministry lead multiple house churches in which they disciple other believers through prayer and studying of Scripture. They also spend time training others how to study Scripture on their own. Donations of $25 or $50 support evangelism and discipleship such as this. Pray for those who must study the Word of God in secret.

Share the Peace of Christ in Iran

Pray the Lord’s protection over Christian workers in dangerous places. Local missionaries continue to disciple believers and train new leaders despite the dangers that Christians face here. One ministry recently brought 122 home church leaders to a secure location outside the country to coach and problem-solve with them. “We discipled them from God’s word and trained them on everything from abiding by Titus and Timonthy’s elder characteristics,” the ministry leader said. “We used different church planting materials to focus on the health of these churches, including in-depth studies of the early church in Acts.” Donations assist ministries in evangelism and discipleship endeavors.

God Demonstrates His Power in Iran

Three Christians told a seriously ill, elderly man in Iran they had come only to help him and offered him fruit and meat. He reviled them for 20 minutes, questioning why they had come and who had sent them. When they asked to pray for him, his only response was, “Never! Prayer can’t help me. I’m waiting to die!”
