Persecution of Christians is on the rise throughout South Asia, yet Christianity is rapidly spreading. In many areas, believers are subject to physical violence and false accusations leading to imprisonment. Northern India still contains the world’s largest number of unreached people groups; however, India’s Christian leaders are beginning to collaborate to reach them. Christians are often at the bottom of the socio-economic strata, as the gospel is taking root among low-caste populations. Though India is the world’s largest democracy, more than 300 million people live below the poverty line. Indigenous ministries provide holistic care to improve people’s situations while sharing the hope of Christ.

Ministry Highlight

Through its Bible correspondence course, a ministry in Pakistan provided thorough biblical instruction to more than 3,000 students throughout the country. They also helped nearly 900 persecuted Christians, including those whose homes were burned due to accusations of blasphemy against Islam. In their seven children’s centers, they provided Christian education to over 300 children.

How You Can Make a Difference

Radical groups in South Asian countries are actively pursuing the eradication of Christians, making ministry increasingly difficult for local believers. Higher levels of persecution have not deterred indigenous missionaries from sharing the gospel; however, they need your support to help them continue making disciples for Christ amid fierce opposition.

From the Mission Field in South Asia

Help Comfort and Counsel Persecuted Believers in South Asia
A local ministry is providing trauma counseling to believers who have experienced persecution. Most recently, they are helping missionaries and pastors who witnessed the destruction and burning of their churches and the beheading of people in their communities. When other churches volunteered their facilities for this counseling, workers from the ministry not only went there to assist those traumatized by these events, but they also began training the church leaders how to provide counseling. Your generous donations help support such work with persecuted Christians.
Support Outreach to Truth-Seekers in South Asia
A Hindu girl fell in love with a Christian boy, and they ran away to get married. After a while, the girl began to attend church with her husband and showed interest in reading the Bible. She surrendered her life to Jesus after she became convinced Jesus was the Savior of the world, and she was baptized by the local church pastor. “I was overwhelmed to baptize her along with several others,” the ministry leader said. “Now she is happily living with her family.” Your donations support local missionaries in their daily service to the Lord.
Celebrate as the Lost Come to Christ in South Asia
The leader of a local ministry traveled to 17 different places over a six-month period to share the gospel and teach the Word of God to thousands of people. In addition, he continues to preach through television, which is broadcast to more than 6 million people in five languages. “Many are giving their lives to Jesus Christ and thousands of Christians are being nourished and nurtured by the Word of God,” he said. Your donations support such evangelism and discipleship.
Restore Hope to the Downtrodden in South Asia
A young man with a tumor on his head received treatment to heal it, but the ailment became more serious. One day, local missionaries shared the gospel with the man and his family, including the man's sister and her husband, who had tried for many years to have children with no success. Both the young man's family and his sister's family gave their lives to Jesus. “His tumor disappeared within a few days,” the ministry leader said. “And his sister became pregnant. Now they all attend church.” Donations support ministries as they evangelize the dispirited.
Support Gospel Work in Remote Places in South Asia
Local missionaries traveled to several remote villages where they shared the gospel with hundreds and provided basic necessities to 53 people living in destitution. But they encountered rough weather on their return journey, and their boat overturned. "By God's goodness, we made it through the event unscathed and are thankful for His protection," the ministry leader said. Your donations support missionaries who travel long and often difficult distances for the sake of the gospel.
Embolden the Persecuted in South Asia
n a region of one South Asian country, a government official has forbidden members of certain groups from participating in church worship. "We ask God to act in the heart of this leader, that he will not be much of a burden to our people," the ministry leader said. The ministry leader also worries for a local pastor who continues to receive warnings about sharing the gospel with an indigenous tribe. "The threat of persecution is not improving," the ministry leader said. Your donations support missionaries who share the gospel in places opposed to it.
