Persecution of Christians is on the rise throughout South Asia, yet Christianity is rapidly spreading. In many areas, believers are subject to physical violence and false accusations leading to imprisonment. Northern India still contains the world’s largest number of unreached people groups; however, India’s Christian leaders are beginning to collaborate to reach them. Christians are often at the bottom of the socio-economic strata, as the gospel is taking root among low-caste populations. Though India is the world’s largest democracy, more than 300 million people live below the poverty line. Indigenous ministries provide holistic care to improve people’s situations while sharing the hope of Christ.

Ministry Highlight

Through its Bible correspondence course, a ministry in Pakistan provided thorough biblical instruction to more than 3,000 students throughout the country. They also helped nearly 900 persecuted Christians, including those whose homes were burned due to accusations of blasphemy against Islam. In their seven children’s centers, they provided Christian education to over 300 children.

How You Can Make a Difference

Radical groups in South Asian countries are actively pursuing the eradication of Christians, making ministry increasingly difficult for local believers. Higher levels of persecution have not deterred indigenous missionaries from sharing the gospel; however, they need your support to help them continue making disciples for Christ amid fierce opposition.

From the Mission Field in South Asia

Stand With Believers in South Asia
Two-hundred people recently participated in several 24-hour prayer and fasting sessions organized by a local ministry to pray for their schools and the monsoon season. “Our pastors and church leaders are continuing to organize 24-hour prayer sessions across all branches, fervently seeking the Lord’s guidance and provision,” the ministry leader said. You can support ongoing ministry work here through a donation. Pray the Lord’s blessing on his people.
Provide Motorbikes to Missionaries in South Asia
Missionaries in South Asia often rely on motorbikes to travel to isolated, difficult-to-reach places to share the gospel, and local ministries request help to purchase these vehicles. “We need two motorbikes,” one ministry leader said. “These are for the missionaries who find it difficult to travel to remote villages.” These ministries seek donations of any amount for such purchases, which cost $1,000 each. Pray for missionaries as they minister to the lost.
Assist With the Care of Persecuted Believers in South Asia
Early one morning, a mob of 500 people violently assaulted a Christian community. Thirty people were injured, with 20 sustaining severe injuries. Because the village in which the attack took place is remote, it took hours for the police and ambulances to arrive. Now, many people are too afraid to return to their homes, and though a police report was filed, no arrest has been made. “We ask for prayers for complete healing for all those who were wounded in the attack,” the ministry leader said. “And we pray for God’s protection over Christians of the village and surrounding areas.”
Celebrate as God Changes Communities in South Asia
A village in which most of the people were idol worshippers was completely transformed after a Christian missionary shared the gospel and prayed over the children, who were suffering from chicken pox. “His prayer changed the village as the sick children began to be healed one by one,” the ministry leader said. “The entire community turned to Christ and left all bad habits, such as drinking alcohol and smoking and idol worship.” Seventy people have been baptized, and the villagers meet each Sunday for worship services.
Help Missionaries Persevere for the Lord in South Asia
A woman afflicted with a demonic possession for 12 years had lost all sense of reason and became increasingly disturbed. Her husband spent all their money on treatment for her, but nothing worked. Finally, though he expected nothing from the attempt, he sought help from a local pastor. The pastor and his team went to the family’s home after fasting and prayed over his wife. She was completely healed. “This is a testimony of our loving Savior, who meets people with power and grace and brings redemption and healing,” the ministry leader said. Donations of $60 or $120 assist missionaries as they serve in spiritually dark places.
Assist Persecuted Believers in South Asia
A family of missionaries who lived and worked in a small mountain village were forced to leave after facing intense persecution for their faith. When a local ministry learned of the family’s unexpected homelessness, they gathered believers from various fellowships and, together, constructed a new home for the family. “Today, this family is safely settled in their new home,” the ministry leader said. “This is a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the unity of the body of Christ in times of trial.” Your donations assist persecuted Christians.
