Persecution of Christians is on the rise throughout South Asia, yet Christianity is rapidly spreading. In many areas, believers are subject to physical violence and false accusations leading to imprisonment. Northern India still contains the world’s largest number of unreached people groups; however, India’s Christian leaders are beginning to collaborate to reach them. Christians are often at the bottom of the socio-economic strata, as the gospel is taking root among low-caste populations. Though India is the world’s largest democracy, more than 300 million people live below the poverty line. Indigenous ministries provide holistic care to improve people’s situations while sharing the hope of Christ.

Ministry Highlight

Through its Bible correspondence course, a ministry in Pakistan provided thorough biblical instruction to more than 3,000 students throughout the country. They also helped nearly 900 persecuted Christians, including those whose homes were burned due to accusations of blasphemy against Islam. In their seven children’s centers, they provided Christian education to over 300 children.

How You Can Make a Difference

Radical groups in South Asian countries are actively pursuing the eradication of Christians, making ministry increasingly difficult for local believers. Higher levels of persecution have not deterred indigenous missionaries from sharing the gospel; however, they need your support to help them continue making disciples for Christ amid fierce opposition.

From the Mission Field in South Asia

Support Missionaries’ Faithful Work in South Asia
A young man and his parents were addicted to alcohol and their life was very difficult. The young man left his home and went to another city, where someone gave him a Bible to read. When he returned home, the man sought out a local missionary to answer his questions about God, and the missionary taught the man and his parents about Jesus. After some time, all three were convicted of their sins and committed their lives to Christ. “Now our entire family belongs to God,” the man said. Donations of $60 or $120 assist missionaries with sharing the gospel. Pray for spiritual revival within families who do not know Jesus.
Help Christian Workers Share The Gospel in Sri Lanka
One day, while driving a missionary from a native ministry, the taxi driver told the missionary that his wife was gravely ill. Though they had tried many ways to heal her through their own religion, nothing worked. The ministry worker shared the gospel with the taxi driver, told him of the healing power of Jesus, and gave him a Bible. The man’s wife was completely healed and the entire family gave their lives to Christ. They now attend a local church and share the gospel with their family and friends. Your support assists missionaries in their service to the Lord. Pray that encounters such as this one continue to lead unbelievers to Jesus.
Support Ministry To Unreached Tribes in Bangladesh
Because of native missionaries’ diligent evangelism efforts to previously unreached indigenous tribes, approximately 1,940 people from various tribal villages were baptized during a six-month period. In addition to sharing the gospel, these Christian workers also taught the people about proper hygiene, and they distributed food among the most vulnerable families. “We have seen that the lives of the people have been improving since the missionaries started working,” the ministry leader said. “They have been interested to hear the word of God and to go to church.” Donations of $25 or $50 are needed for such outreach. Pray for new believers’ faith to be a testimony to the lost.
Bring Jesus’ Love To The Weary in South Asia
Three native missionaries regularly visit a leper colony and conduct prayer meetings with the 49 people who live there. During their visits, the missionaries also provide medical care and much-needed medicine, as well as a once-a-month special time of fellowship. “People are doing better there,” the ministry leader said. “But some, due to growing age, have much physical weakness.” Your donations are needed to help bring the gospel to those who might not otherwise hear it. Pray for native Christian workers as they carry the good news of Jesus to the sick and weary.
Share The Gospel In Spiritually Dark Places in South Asia
A father of four was a devout Hindu and addicted to alcohol. His wife and daughters, however, became believers through the evangelism of their relatives in another village. When one of his daughters hoped to marry a man who was also a believer, her father refused for almost a year until, one day, God spoke to him. The man agreed to allow the marriage, and the entire village bore witness for the first time to a Christian marriage ceremony in which the gospel was also proclaimed. Now, there is a weekly fellowship in the village. Donations of $25 or $50 support evangelism to unreached people. Pray the gospel will transform those who hear it.
Support Evangelism Opportunities in Pakistan
A man who attended camps organized by a native ministry recently chose to put his faith in Christ. Later, ministry workers gave him audio Bibles to distribute to his community, and he has since begun to share the gospel with his family members and other relatives. The ministry regularly operates student camps to evangelize in the community, and they expect 80 to 100 young men to attend the next one. “They will be nourished with the Word of God and encouraged to come to Christ,” the ministry leader said. Your donations are needed for evangelism events. Pray the Holy Spirit will transform those in attendance.
