Christianity continues to grow among ethnic minorities, and believers face increasing persecution from oppressive regimes and radical Muslims. In Myanmar, indigenous missionaries are working amid a civil war between a brutal military regime and resistance groups, providing aid and care to people who have fled their homes to take refuge in the forests. Throughout the region, ministries are discipling and training new Christian leaders, translating Scripture into local languages, and bringing hope to downtrodden people and communities through education, microenterprise, medical care, and more.

Ministry Highlight

In Myanmar, a ministry provided nearly 2,000 displaced people who fled to the forests to escape ongoing civil war with food, supplies and temporary shelters. “I received a distress call from a woman residing in one of the villages,” the ministry leader said. “She recounted how her husband had been arrested and burned alive, leaving her with four children. We offered her refuge at our children’s home, where she and her children now reside. Her children are enrolled in the school, and she assists us as a cook.”

How You Can Make a Difference

Equipping indigenous missionaries in Southeast Asia with regular support, Bibles, transportation, and training enables them to effectively share the Good News with people who have never heard the name of Jesus Christ. Your support will help ensure that people in areas unreached by the gospel will hear about the Savior.

From the Mission Field in Southeast Asia

Deliver Bibles To The Broken-Hearted in Myanmar
Christian workers from one native ministry have delivered Bibles—often through smugglers’ routes—to refugees in at least five camps as well as to refugees living in 10 different countries. In some places, the transport was particularly dangerous as the Bibles were confiscated by soldiers; but each time, the missionaries were miraculously able to recover them. The refugees who receive these Bibles are always overjoyed at the gift. “Daily, I weep due to the persecution and hardships I endure,” one refugee said. “However, receiving the New Testament brought me peace and assured me of my salvation.” Donations of $24 or $48 are needed for Bible distribution. Pray the peace of Christ on those enduring hardship.
Expand The Lord’s Kingdom in Cambodia
A native ministry leader estimates that approximately 95 percent of those who listen to his ministry’s radio program are not believers, but more come to know Jesus every day. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, the program led more than 200 people to Christ, and 123 were baptized by the ministry’s pastors across the country. “Much praise and glory to our heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!” the ministry leader said. The ministry is now working to expand its outreach to include an audio library for the blind and the handicapped. Your donations support missionaries in this evangelism. Pray that their work will further the Lord’s kingdom.
Assist With Missionaries’ Medical Outreach
During a recent four-day conference for native missionaries, the 250 participants not only committed to pursue God’s calling on their lives, but they also conducted house-to-house evangelism. Those they met during this outreach who had health issues or concerns were invited to come to the conference venue for a free medical check-up, where many received medicine and eyeglasses, if needed. “Yes indeed, God’s power was at work within us in the past month,” the ministry leader said. “All glory to God!” Donations of $50 or $100 are needed for medical missions. Pray those who are sick and weary will put their faith in Jesus.
Lead Idol Worshippers To Jesus in the Philippines
When native missionaries learned that the aunt and uncle of one of the ministry’s Bible students practiced witchcraft, they journeyed to the couple’s home to present the gospel. “It is her [the Bible student’s] prayer that all her family will hear and believe the gospel and be saved,” the ministry leader said. The missionaries walked two hours through the mountains to share the gospel with the couple, and the man and his wife were transformed by the message they heard. “They believed, accepted, and wept, and they thanked us for the gospel,” the ministry leader said. Donations of $25 or $50 support evangelism in the country. Pray for new believers in their walk with Christ.
Lift Up Weary Persecuted Believers in Southeast Asia
When a widow chose to put her faith in Christ, her son and daughter-in-law forced her to leave their home and she was banished from the village. Christians in another village built her a small hut and now help to take care of her. In another place, a believer who was a successful nurse was constantly asked to renounce his faith, which he refused to do. One day, he stopped receiving his regular salary, and the hospital told him they wanted him to resign; otherwise, they would fire him. He chose to resign. Your donations support persecuted believers. Pray they will trust in Christ’s provision in difficult times.
Distribute Bibles In Indigenous Languages in Laos
A native ministry is preparing to distribute audio versions of the books of Matthew, Mark, Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, and Galatians in an indigenous language, as well as Bible stories, worship songs, and copies of the entire Bible. “These audio tools have been a key source in proclaiming the gospel, as well as spiritually feeding both new and existing believers,” the ministry leader said. “Even the authorities recognize the effectiveness of these tools, by threatening people that listen to them.” Your donations support this need. Pray that those who receive them will be encouraged in their faith.
