Christianity continues to grow among ethnic minorities, and believers face increasing persecution from oppressive regimes and radical Muslims. In Myanmar, indigenous missionaries are working amid a civil war between a brutal military regime and resistance groups, providing aid and care to people who have fled their homes to take refuge in the forests. Throughout the region, ministries are discipling and training new Christian leaders, translating Scripture into local languages, and bringing hope to downtrodden people and communities through education, microenterprise, medical care, and more.

Ministry Highlight

In Myanmar, a ministry provided nearly 2,000 displaced people who fled to the forests to escape ongoing civil war with food, supplies and temporary shelters. “I received a distress call from a woman residing in one of the villages,” the ministry leader said. “She recounted how her husband had been arrested and burned alive, leaving her with four children. We offered her refuge at our children’s home, where she and her children now reside. Her children are enrolled in the school, and she assists us as a cook.”

How You Can Make a Difference

Equipping indigenous missionaries in Southeast Asia with regular support, Bibles, transportation, and training enables them to effectively share the Good News with people who have never heard the name of Jesus Christ. Your support will help ensure that people in areas unreached by the gospel will hear about the Savior.

From the Mission Field in Southeast Asia

Support the Fellowship of Local Believers in the Philippines
Pray that local missionaries will be encouraged as they fellowship together. Nearly 200 ministry workers from two regions recently participated in a local ministry’s Leadership Development Program in which they worked in small groups to learn ways to lead Bible study participants into ministry work. “During the small group discussions, the participants were reminded that they should be able to perpetuate a reproducible ministry,” the ministry leader said. “They discussed the step-by-step process on how to help people become workers of the Lord Jesus.” Donations support ministry events such as this.
Support Gospel Work During Dangerous Times in Myanmar
Pray the Lord will sustain missionaries in dangerous places. A local ministry has begun to help those displaced by the civil war that continues to plague the country. Recently, missionaries provided aid to 28 vulnerable families whose homes were destroyed in one village, and they assisted approximately 75 families in another, larger town in which more than 500 homes were burned to the ground. “Although we have been facing civil unrest, and recently natural disasters like floods, we are doing well by His grace alone,” the ministry leader said. Your donations of $40 or $80 help provide assistance to vulnerable people.
Equip Missionaries for Gospel Work in the Philippines
Pray for new believers as they seek to walk closer to Jesus. A young man whose life was changed by the gospel became a powerful example to his family and community of the transformative power of Christ. “His once-empty heart was filled with the love and grace of Jesus,” the ministry leader said. “Through discipleship training and equipping sessions provided by our workers, he embarked on a journey of deepening his faith and understanding God’s word.” Now, others want to follow Christ because of his testimony. Your donations of $60 or $120 assist missionaries as they help believers deepen their relationship with Jesus.
Celebrate as People Come to Christ in Cambodia
Pray for people to be filled with the joy of the Lord. A local missionary and his wife who serve as substitute teachers at a nearby school pray for their classes at the beginning and end of each day as well as with individual students. Because of their experience with school-aged children, they also established a ministry in which they mentor students three days each week at their church. “This has resulted in many children and toddlers coming to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior,” the ministry leader said. Your donations support such outreach.
Assist Those Struggling With Difficult Circumstances in Vietnam
Pray the Lord will comfort those affected by natural disasters. After recent catastrophic flooding and landslides killed hundreds of people, local missionaries traveled to several villages to provide aid to survivors, including distributing blankets and new clothes. They also shared the gospel and prayed for those they met who were unbelievers, and they assisted six Christian families who lost their homes. “May God give them the new strength and new life in this difficult time,” the ministry leader said. Donations of $35 or $70 are needed for assistance such as this.
Assist Missionaries With Christ-Centered Counsel in Indonesia
Pray that God will give missionaries wisdom as they disciple new believers. Local missionaries lead small groups almost every day—all day long—to train Christians on basic Biblical doctrine and practical Christian living. The missionaries hope that through this discipleship, believers’ faith will be strengthened, particularly when they suffer persecution from Muslim apologists or when they are tempted to live as the world lives. “The problem occurs because of persecution and bullying from Muslim people who attack their faith through social media channels,” the ministry leader said. “But these believers also struggle with wanting to be rich and wealthy.” Your donations assist missionaries in such evangelism and discipleship.
