Latin America’s Protestant population is booming, yet the region is still home to high numbers of unreached people groups. Brazil tops the chart of Latin American countries with the most unreached people groups. Mexico is second, followed by Peru and Colombia. Among Christians, lack of trained leadership is a challenge that has led to false teaching within some churches. Indigenous missionaries are sharing the gospel with tribes in the Amazon Jungle and the Andes Mountains, dangerous criminals in prisons, and vulnerable children. Their holistic approach ministers to people’s practical and spiritual needs, and they meticulously disciple and train those whom they lead to Christ.

Ministry Highlight

In Colombia, an indigenous ministry set up feeding centers at 22 of their congregations, providing food to more than 900 children and elderly people every Sunday. “Many of these meals were served in communities where families live around the garbage dumps of towns and cities. They make a living collecting paper, plastic, and metal, which will be sold to obtain money to support their families. By caring for children, we are helping to spread the gospel, since many of these parents consider that the food their children receive at church is the best food these children receive during the week,” the leader said.

How You Can Make a Difference

Indigenous missionaries in Latin America persevere in sharing the gospel in some of the world’s most dangerous mission fields—where gangs, drug traffickers, and hostile animist communities view them as a threat to their territories. They need your support to help them enter towns and villages through community engagement projects like small businesses and vocational training centers, which have proven effective in opening hearts to the gospel message.

From the Mission Field in Latin America

Encourage Missionaries to Persevere in Peru
Pray for ministry workers as they seek to serve the Lord in their homes and in their communities. Women who assist a local ministry are described as a “powerful force” by the ministry leader. “After taking care of their children, husbands, and work, they set aside weekly time to meet and pray together, and they fast periodically to support the work of the Lord in their congregations,” the ministry leader said. “They help us by visiting, praying, and teaching new believers in small groups. They also do manual labor to earn income and support their local congregation. Through this, the local churches are growing.” Your donations support this kingdom work.
Raise a New Generation for Jesus in Ecuador
Pray for new pastors as they enter the mission field. Through participation in a local ministry throughout his childhood, a young boy not only gave his life to Jesus but, when he became an adult, he studied theology and became the pastor of a congregation that the ministry planted more than 20 years ago. “He has always said that his Christian formation was received while he studied the Bible in our Sunday school and also attended our church,” the ministry leader said. Your gifts support local ministries as they disciple the next generation of Christ followers.
Comfort the Abused With Jesus’ Love in Bolivia
Pray the Lord’s healing on those who have been broken and abused. A girl from an abusive family arrived at a local ministry’s children’s home overwhelmed by past trauma. But through the dedicated kindness of ministry workers, she slowly began to change. After two years of attendance at a nearby Christian school and through the constant prayers and devotionals from ministry workers, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized. “She still has many areas of her life that need to be transformed,” the ministry leader said. “But she is persevering, thanks to God.” Your donations support missionaries in their ministry to others.
Share Gospel Truths With New Believers in Brazil
Pray that new believers have opportunities to deepen their faith. Local missionaries visited a remote tribe where another missionary lives and has established a church. During their three-day visit, the missionaries conducted a Bible study for the local leaders to help them gain a deeper understanding of Scripture and of their faith. They also taught on the importance of family, missions, and commitment to God. “At the end of the course, the leaders were renewed in their lives and asked us to have other courses because they lack a lot of knowledge about the Bible,” the ministry leader said. Donations of $25 or $50 support such evangelism and discipleship efforts.
Assist Missionaries on Difficult Journeys in Colombia
Pray for missionaries who travel long distances in their kingdom work. Despite dangerous weather, difficult terrain, and armed guerrilla groups, local missionaries persevere in sharing the gospel. In one region, Christian workers travel by horseback for an entire day, then they are transported in a truck on an additional seven-hour journey to the town in which a local ministry is based. “Thank God for the hard-working and courageous servants who continue to bring the Word of God in these difficult places where everyone needs to hear the message of the gospel of peace,” the ministry leader said. Donations of $60 or $120 assist missionaries who fearlessly share the gospel message.
Be the Salt of the Earth in Ecuador
Pray the Lord will soften the hearts of those who are hardened against Him. Deep in the jungle, a witch who leads an indigenous tribe has threatened to kill anyone who hopes to introduce the gospel to the people. Despite these warnings, missionaries from a local ministry have begun visiting one of the tribal villages, praying that God will open the door to one day share the gospel there as they build relationships in the community. Your donations support missionaries who risk their lives to share the gospel in remote places such as this.
