Latin America’s Protestant population is booming, yet the region is still home to high numbers of unreached people groups. Brazil tops the chart of Latin American countries with the most unreached people groups. Mexico is second, followed by Peru and Colombia. Among Christians, lack of trained leadership is a challenge that has led to false teaching within some churches. Indigenous missionaries are sharing the gospel with tribes in the Amazon Jungle and the Andes Mountains, dangerous criminals in prisons, and vulnerable children. Their holistic approach ministers to people’s practical and spiritual needs, and they meticulously disciple and train those whom they lead to Christ.

Ministry Highlight

In Colombia, an indigenous ministry set up feeding centers at 22 of their congregations, providing food to more than 900 children and elderly people every Sunday. “Many of these meals were served in communities where families live around the garbage dumps of towns and cities. They make a living collecting paper, plastic, and metal, which will be sold to obtain money to support their families. By caring for children, we are helping to spread the gospel, since many of these parents consider that the food their children receive at church is the best food these children receive during the week,” the leader said.

How You Can Make a Difference

Indigenous missionaries in Latin America persevere in sharing the gospel in some of the world’s most dangerous mission fields—where gangs, drug traffickers, and hostile animist communities view them as a threat to their territories. They need your support to help them enter towns and villages through community engagement projects like small businesses and vocational training centers, which have proven effective in opening hearts to the gospel message.

From the Mission Field in Latin America

Support Missionaries as They Build Relationships in Mexico
Pray for indigenous missionaries as they seek to share the gospel in their own communities. Missionaries in an ethnic village believed hope was lost after village leaders forced them to leave. But prior to their expulsion, one of the missionaries applied to be a teacher, and one month after they left, he was offered the job. As a result, the leaders apologized for their actions and welcomed the missionaries back. “This event has brought to light that our missionaries are needed in this village and are now accepted by the vast majority of the town,” the ministry leader said. Help missionaries serve their communities through your donations.
Strengthen New Believers’ Faith in Ecuador
Pray for new believers as they study Scripture and grow in their faith. In the last several months, 30 people gave their lives to Christ through the evangelism of local missionaries. Now, they are being discipled under the guidance of those same missionaries, who are also currently training new believers who wish to pursue ministry work and discipling leaders of the 20 home Bible studies their ministry has established. “We are doing hard work in giving them the teachings and discipleship in each of them,” the ministry leader said. Help local missionaries train and disciple new believers with such evangelism and discipleship work through donations of $25 or $50.
Assist the Most Vulnerable in Haiti
Pray the Lord will protect those in difficult circumstances. Three newborn babies were abandoned at the doorstep of a local ministry, a tragedy indicative of the heartbreaking conditions that continue to stretch across the country. One is so malnourished that he cannot hold up his head. “We are taking care of him and praying that he will come through,” the ministry leader said. The ministry also provides free health care and food to orphans and the most vulnerable people in the community, many of whom had to flee their homes as gangs invaded their neighborhoods. Donations of $25 or $50 are needed to support local ministries as they assist their communities during times of need.
Encourage Missionaries to Persevere in Peru
Pray for ministry workers as they seek to serve the Lord in their homes and in their communities. Women who assist a local ministry are described as a “powerful force” by the ministry leader. “After taking care of their children, husbands, and work, they set aside weekly time to meet and pray together, and they fast periodically to support the work of the Lord in their congregations,” the ministry leader said. “They help us by visiting, praying, and teaching new believers in small groups. They also do manual labor to earn income and support their local congregation. Through this, the local churches are growing.” Your donations support this kingdom work.
Raise a New Generation for Jesus in Ecuador
Pray for new pastors as they enter the mission field. Through participation in a local ministry throughout his childhood, a young boy not only gave his life to Jesus but, when he became an adult, he studied theology and became the pastor of a congregation that the ministry planted more than 20 years ago. “He has always said that his Christian formation was received while he studied the Bible in our Sunday school and also attended our church,” the ministry leader said. Your gifts support local ministries as they disciple the next generation of Christ followers.
Comfort the Abused With Jesus’ Love in Bolivia
Pray the Lord’s healing on those who have been broken and abused. A girl from an abusive family arrived at a local ministry’s children’s home overwhelmed by past trauma. But through the dedicated kindness of ministry workers, she slowly began to change. After two years of attendance at a nearby Christian school and through the constant prayers and devotionals from ministry workers, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized. “She still has many areas of her life that need to be transformed,” the ministry leader said. “But she is persevering, thanks to God.” Your donations support missionaries in their ministry to others.
